Anna Cazurra
Anna Cazurra Basté did her musical studies at the Barcelona Conservatoire of Music, where she studied piano and violin and later Composition and Orchestration with Josep Soler, achieving the Superior titles in Composition and Musical Pedagogy. At the same time, she studied at the Autónoma University of Barcelona from where she graduated in 1988. In 1992 she received her Ph.D. in Musicology. In 1993 she won a scholarship from the Spanish Government and moved to United Kingdom, where she took part in a musical research programme at the University of Wales. After returning to Spain she served as a teacher and scholar from 1995 and 2001 at the Pompeu Fabra University of Barcelona.
Anna Cazurra Basté has received various commissions from international societies and has won a number of composition awards. She has also taken part in several national and international musical festivals. She has composed a considerable amount of chamber, orchestral, dramatic and vocal pieces and some of her compositions have been on CD and broadcast by radio.

While continuing her activity as a composer, her interest in the historical reconstruction of Iberian music and the recuperation of musical repertoire by Spanish composers has taken her to be a member of diverse musicological research programmes. She has publicised the results of her research activity at international conferences and other scholarly events and has given lectures of history and aesthetics of music at various Spanish universities. She has published a number of books and articles in national and international music journals.
In July 2001 she received a prestigious award from the Generalitat de Catalunya in appreciation of her professional career. At present, she combines her teaching activity at Barcelona University with composition and research in musicology. Recently she has been nominated Composer-Scholar in Residence by the City University of New York, which is organising a monographic concert with orchestral pieces by her which will take place in April 2003.
