(Score + solo part) -- SOLILOQUY was commissioned by the French Violinist, Annie Jodry, Prof of Violin of the French National Conservatory in Fresnes, France. It was premiered by Annie Jodry with the Orchestre des jeunes des pays européens -Jean Jacques Werner conducting- in Paris 1987. Since then it has been performed frequently in Europe and in the Americas.
The term, "Soliloquy" usually refers to an actor's expression of thoughts or intimate feelings while he is alone on stage. Here I have used the term to designate the theme as expressed by the solo violin as the violinist is given free access to explore the vibrant sonority of the instrument in a long, unaccompanied statement. This is followed by a lyrical solo passage with a sonorous orchestral background. After a lively middle section with brilliant technical passages, the violin returns to the opening themes in the quiet conclusion.
