Rosa María Rodríguez Hernández
Born in Porto-Cristo (Mallorca, Balearic Islands). She graduated from the Professional Conservatory of Palma de Mallorca in Piano, and earned a degree in Music Theory, Transposition, and Accompaniment. She continued her studies at the Royal Conservatory of Madrid, where she obtained a degree in Musicology (1991). That year, one of her musicology works, “Estudio de catalogación de las obras musicales de Bernat Julià,” was published. At the Conservatory of Valencia, she obtained degrees in Music Pedagogy and Harmony, Counterpoint, Composition, and Instrumentation. She continued her studies in Choral Conducting with Eduardo Cifre and Orchestral Conducting with Manuel Galduf. She also studied Composition with José Prohens, Alejandro Yagüe, Ramón Ramos, Franco Donatoni, Leonardo Balada, Guy Reibel, Leon Schidlowsky, Yizhak Sadai, and José Antonio Orts. She earned a University Specialist degree in Music from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (2003) and a Diploma of Advanced Studies (D.E.A.) in the Department of Audiovisual Communication and Art History (2005). She earned her PhD cum laude from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Sculpture (January 21, 2009), with her thesis entitled “A Study of the Stage Work of Ramón Barce and the Work and Thought of Alfredo Aracil through Memory.”
She has been a researcher at the Intermedia Creations Laboratory (LCI) of the Department of Sculpture of the Faculty of Fine Arts (UPV), on the projects “Recovery of pioneering works of sound art from the historical Spanish avant-garde and a review of their current influence” (2009-2013) and “Recovery of pioneering practices of performance art from the historical Spanish avant-garde and their contribution to the history of European performance” (2015-2017).
Her works have been performed by the Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra, the Córdoba Orchestra, the Unicamp Symphony Orchestra of Brazil, the Havana String Quartet, the Conjunt Instrumental Encontres, the Ensemble Música Viva, the Grup Instrumental de València, S’Ensemble, the Ophelia Quartet, the Logos Ensemble, the Play Four Quartet, Nam Maro and Alaria, the Amadeo Roldán String Quartet, the Arbós Trio, and the Zaniah Trio. directed by Salvador Brotons, Agustí Aguiló, Manuel Galduf, Efraín Amaya, Tonino Battista, Andrés Salado, Juan Luis Pérez, Cinthia Alireti; by soloists such as Susana García Lastra, Antonio Arias and Estela Blázquez, José Pablo Polo, Elena Solanes, Cristina Montes Mateo, Francisco Lobo, María Teresa Chenlo, Manuel Guillén, Miguel Álvarez-Argudo, Isabel Pérez Dobarro, Ana Lourdes Rodríguez, Piero Bonaguri, Cecilia Bercovich, Amalia Tortajada Zanón, Aurelio Viribay, Iris Azquinezer, Marisa Blanes, Enrique V. Sánchez Vidal, Sofya Melikian, Paula Hernández, Alejandro Moreno, Margaret Dodson-Buhl, Éverton Amorim, Lidia Guerberof Hahn.

She is currently the founder and director of ITAMAR: Journal of Musical Research. Territories for Art, since 2008. She is a member of the editorial board of the journals Papeles del Festival de Música Española de Cádiz and Música Oral del Sur. She has been a member of the Women and Contemporary Musical Creation Workshop at the Cádiz Spanish Music Festival since 2005. She is the coordinator of the book collection “Análisis de la Música Contemporánea” (Analysis of Contemporary Music) published by Piles. She is a member of the Latin Recording Academy.
Her album Como el viento has been awarded twice, at the Global Music Awards, with a Silver Medal for Composer and Album, June 2019. Likewise, her work Tiamat, for Wind Quintet has obtained two other Silver Medals for Contemporary Classical and Composition/composer at the Global Music Awards, August 2019. In 2022 she produced the CD Bocetos de Mujer. La Soledad Performed by Marisa Blanes, piano.
Her works are published by Musicvall Edicions Musicals.
She is currently a professor of Composition Fundamentals at the Generalitat Valenciana.
