Marcos Ripoll Corella
He began his musical studies at the age of 12 at the SMI Santa Cecilia in Cullera.
At the age of 17, he made his solo debut with R.V. Williams’s tuba concerto, which was warmly received by audiences and critics.
In his youth, he met Mel Culbertson, a prestigious American tuba player with whom he studied and formed a close friendship.
He has also been part of and collaborated with youth orchestras such as the Youth Orchestra of the Generalitat Valenciana, the Malmö Musikhögskolan Orchestra (Sweden), the Philharmonic Orchestra of the University of Valencia, and the National Youth Orchestra of Spain (JONDE).
He holds a degree in tuba from the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music of England.
He holds a higher degree in tuba from the Salvador Seguí Conservatory of Music in Castellón. Silver medal at the Perpignan Conservatory (France). He holds a Master’s degree in “Musical Analysis and Interpretation” from the University of Oviedo and a postgraduate degree in Tuba and Musical Performance from the Lund University Musikhögskolan in Malmö (Sweden). Both degrees have been awarded the highest marks.
He collaborates regularly with groups such as the Valencia Orchestra, the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra (BOS), the Vallés Orchestra, the Madrid Community Symphony Orchestra, the Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra, the Perpignan Orchestra (France), the Radio Denmark Symphony Orchestra, and the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra (Denmark), among others.
Since 2003, he has been a member of the Bilbao Municipal Band through competitive examination.
As a soloist, it is worth highlighting his concert at the Zaragoza Auditorium (Mozart Hall), performing John Williams’ Concerto for Tuba and Orchestra with the Orchestra. Philharmonic Orchestra of the University of Valencia, as well as concerts and recitals at the Príncipe Felipe Auditorium in Oviedo, the Lluís Vives Auditorium in Valencia, the Marcelino Botín Foundation in Santander, the Amaia Theater in Irún, and Caroli Kirka in Malmö (Sweden), performing works by Penderecki, Broughton, Kraft, Vaughan Williams, Strauss, Dumitru, Granados, Albeniz, Lopez-Chavarri, among others.
The CD commemorating the tenth anniversary of the University of Valencia Philharmonic Orchestra features the third movement of her performance of John Williams’s Concerto for Tuba and Orchestra.
With pianist Stefanos Spanopoulos, in 2012 she presented her first solo album, “Mediterranean Tuba,” performing pieces adapted and arranged by Marcos Ripoll for tuba and piano. Mediterranean Tuba brings together pieces by composers born around the Mediterranean Sea; Albéniz, López-Chávarri, Granados, and Tárrega. Published and available through Musicvall.
In 2016, he released his second album, “Contemporary Classics for a Lone Tuba,” featuring the most distinguished and well-known pieces for solo tuba in the repertoire and two compositions composed specifically for this project by D. Menent (Espills ausents) and R. Sancasto (Epítube).
He is frequently invited to national and international tuba conferences to give lectures and recitals.
