Description
This work is a tribute to the Valencian composer Vicente Martín y Soler, a contemporary of Mozart who achieved great success in Vienna and Saint Petersburg. The theme is taken from his opera “Una cosa rara”, and was also used by Mozart in his opera “Don Giovanni”. It is dedicated to Enrique Pérez Piquer, Principal Clarinet of the Spanish National Orchestra.
This piece was performed as a gift following a performance by the composer of Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto in A major with the Córdoba Orchestra at the Gran Teatro de Córdoba (Spain). Daniel Belloví, a professor with the Valencia Municipal Band, made a recording of the work using the contrabass clarinet, which was broadcast by a specialist radio station in Miami.
